Chair

Margo Malabar

Margo moved to B.C. in 2022, and is an artisan vendor at our markets. She has experience in developing Community Food Security programs, which includes developing and managing three farmers markets in Manitoba over a seven year period. From 2015, Margo was also a vendor at farmers' markets in Manitoba, initially selling produce that she grew on a two acre farm, and then changing to selling hand-made clothing that she produces in her home.

Margo looks forward to working with the board, staff, volunteers and vendors at the markets to help develop new ideas, to listen and support others ideas, and to help to support  what is working well in the markets.

Treasurer

Robert Fullerton

With three years dedicated to establishing a market garden on leased land in Maple Ridge, Robert brings a unique perspective to the board. He holds a diverse background, including a degree in Philosophy from U of C, operating a market garden in Creston from 1978-1986, founding a residential construction company in Vancouver from 1986-1996, initiating a golf services company expanded into California from 1996-2008, and building houses in Mexico from 2010-2020.

When the pandemic struck, Robert embarked on growing food again as a retirement project, overcoming various obstacles and gaining insights into agricultural land use in urban areas. He is the proud owner of Nimble Farmer - a local farm in the heart of Maple Ridge that grows melons amongst other things. Believing in regenerative farming practices for a sustainable future, he advocates for ownership rather than leasing, viewing it as critical for this transition. In Maple Ridge, Robert sees the potential to strike a balance between urban residential pressure and growing farm land assets.

Samantha Daskis

I was born and raised in Maple Ridge, and grew up with an inside look at food and beverage product development under my mother's food consulting firm.

From an early age, I learned the value and importance of the local food systems, from farm to plate, from Concept to Consumer. After receiving my B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Victoria, I took a larger role in our family business helping small businesses navigate the challenges of scaling their food and beverage ideas within the national regulations.

Taking over the sales role for the Rick's Real Foods brand has given me further insight into the grocery retail sector and how local Farmers Markets products can develop successfully in the next growth phase.

Engaging directly with customers and the community at the markets is always a highlight of the season and continues to fuel my inspiration to support the local growers, producers, and innovators.
